Your baby and teething : how to provide relief ?
Teething is a time which worries most parents. Like many, you would often like to be able to take your baby’s place to relieve their pain. Even if that is (unfortunately) not possible, there are little things you can do to provide relief. Let’s go over them together.

Teething, baby’s first teeth, what is it all about?
Milk teeth begin to form inside your baby’s jaw bones from pregnancy. They are called “tooth buds”. Teething is when the teeth gradually move down before piercing the gum. Contrary to common preconceptions, it is not this last stage which may be painful for your baby, but the whole process that comes before tooth eruption.
The first teeth often come through between four and seven months, sometimes a little earlier. How long does teething last then?
We consider that teething lasts around 8 days each time… With one tooth per teething episode, it takes on average 160 days for baby’s first 20 teeth to show up.
Like with many things, each baby reacts differently to teething.
While some will show very few signs of pain, others will be a lot more sensitive to this natural development process.
Teething symptoms
If your baby belongs to the second category, certain signs are often synonymous with teething:
● Swollen gums
● Red cheeks (sometimes redness affects the whole face)
● Excess saliva in the mouth
● Loss of appetite
● Crabbiness all day long
● Restless nights, affecting your baby’s sleep train
● A tendency to chew on everything
● Fever for 2 or 3 days (not exceeding 38°C)
● Soft stools (and nappy rash as a result)
If the last two symptoms persist, we recommend you see your paediatrician, who will be able to tell you more and give an accurate diagnosis.
How to provide relief when your baby is teething?
The key word during teething is patience. It is a long period during which your baby is likely to go through all kinds of emotions and states. Here are some tips to help relieve their pain as much as possible:
Teething rings
To prevent your baby chewing everything they find, you can buy them a teething ring. Our tip, place it in the refrigerator at regular intervals. The cold sensation on your baby’s gums will act like a mild anaesthetic and will help relieve the pain.
Soothing gels
They are formulated to reduce discomfort related to teething and facilitate eruption of the first teeth. Our recommendation: CALMOSINE SOOTHING TEETHING GEL for its soothing and emollient effect on the gums thanks to its complex of 100% natural organic active ingredients enriched in:
Aloe vera
This succulent plant is used externally or internally for its protective and soothing properties. Especially useful for taking care of the gums, studies have shown Aloe vera to significantly reduce gum inflammation.
Liquorice
Humans have used liquorice for thousands of years for its many virtues. Many babies have chewed on liquorice to relieve and soothe during teething, without any contraindication for their health.
Iris
Iris root is known to soothe babies’ teething troubles while facilitating eruption of the milk teeth.
Propolis
It is the purifying properties of propolis that are useful in little ones’ teething troubles. It also helps reduces sensations of discomfort in often swollen gums.
Gum massages
To attenuate teething pain, you can gently and carefully massage your baby’s gums directly, using soothing gel. If you use your fingers, remember to wash your hands first. You can also use a damp cloth for a soothing effect.
Additional tip: CALMOSINE SOOTHING TEETHING GEL can be stored in the bottle in the refrigerator for a greater soothing effect.
Cuddles
Cuddles (obviously) treat all ills! During this complicated time, your baby will need comforting as much as possible. Remember to take them in your arms as often as possible to reassure them.
As you will have guessed, teething is a mandatory stage in your baby’s development. An episode which is not one of the most pleasant, but which will be rapidly replaced by the joy of seeing all your baby’s little milk teeth fill their smile.
If you have any doubts at all about the symptoms or about the best solutions for your baby, you can see your paediatrician, who will be the best placed to answer all your questions.
